Have the Oscars changed A.R. Rahman? Yes, of course. But the music maestro says
that life has changed in a different way!
"Things which were unattainable in the West are just a step away and the award
has been a great agent for me now. Since I have a name now, it will further
help in reaching the western audience," he said to a newspaper in Hyderabad,
adding that the award has given him the authority to walk into any studio in
the world like Universal or Sony with confidence.
Usually, Indian music lovers argue that though Rahman won the Oscars for 'Jai
Ho', he had better songs to his name, e.g. 'Maa Tujhe Salaam.' But A.R. Rahman
would smilingly like to reject the argument, saying: "It’s a perspective of
people loving 'Maa Tujhe Salaam' more than 'Jai Ho'. Indians think it is much
better but westerners think 'Jai Ho' is better."
Meanwhile, for the first time after winning the Oscars, A.R. Rahman will soon
stage a live concert in Hyderabad on October 24 at the GMR Arena, Rajiv Gandhi
International Airport Complex. Rahman's last concdert in Hyderabad was held in
2002 at the Gachibowli stadium.
