I honestly think that the perception of ARR's music has bounced back from a
relative lull during the middle of this decade. People are understanding more
how versatile he is and nobody is throwing around the word "repetitive"
anymore. His music is as versatile as you can get under one composer! Sure,
there are the haters, etc., but most progressive, open, and globally/worldy
minded people have only appreciated his music more over time. Of course,
Rahman broke down the Western barrier with Slumdog.

I think the older Indian generation has loved ARR more over time, esp. slower
melodies along the likes of golden melodies of yesteryear from albums like
Bose, Water, Guru, Jodha Akbar, Yuvvraaj. I know for a fact that my parents,
who used to be very skeptical about Rahman, have now embraced him completely as
a true genius and an amazing melody maker, since they would only focus on
melodies as their criteria for a good song. When I talk about ARR in praise a
lot, they don't look away anymore....they nod in agreement!
