STARRING

Akshay Kumar, Sanjay Dutt, Sunil Shetty, Zayed Khan, Lara Dutta, Katrina Kaif,
Kylie Minogue, Rahul Dev and others.

DIRECTION

Anthony D’Souza

STORY

The story of the flick revolves around the search of treasure hidden in the
deep blue waters of the sea near Bahamas. Aarav (Akshay Kumar) who owns Blue
fishing company and is a rich ambitious business man, wants his friend and
employee Sagar(Sanjay Dutt) to go for it. But, Sagar, who is a simple and
satisfied man, does not want to involve himself in Aarav’s greedy expedition.

Aarav is very ambitious, arrogant and lives his life taking risks to gain
everything in life. He simply hates failure and is always on the lookout for
some risk taking opportunity to advance his business and money.

Sam (Zayed) is Sagar’s brother but they are not on good terms. Sam passionately
loves bikes and lives in Bangkok. But somehow comes into bad book of a mafia
don, Rahul Dev in that city, and is forced to seek shelter in Bahamas, where
Aarav and Sagar live.

Sam knows that only his brother Sagar can help him get away from Rahul Dev, but
Sagar is in a dilemma due to a past trauma. In fact, Sagar holds himself
responsible for his father’s tragic death, and the memories still haunt him
during the nights.

This dark side of Sagar is known only to his girlfriend Mona (Lara Dutta), who
is a beautiful bubbly girl, but fears that the secret would destroy her love
life as well as of that of her beau Sagar.

Soon all this leads to bare handed defense from dreaded sharks and deep sea
diving (Sagar is an expert in diving). Even the secret of treasure comes to the
fore and past events, involving the death and destruction, are revealed. What
happens after that is shown in the later part of the film.

PERFORMANCE

Akshay Kumar, who plays the character of a rich and ambitious businessman
Aarav, has given a superlative performance. His underwater daredevilry is just
unmatched and makes him stands out amongst the macho bunch of bollywood
biggies. He looks completely in control of the situation and never overacts.

Sanjay Dutt, who plays the part of Akshay’s friend and employee, Sagar,
performs his part with consummate ease. Sanjay is superb, where he relates
story about his father’s death and his past trauma due to that. However, a
little bit of trimming of his body would have shown him in more favorable light
as a deep sea diving expert.

Zayed Khan, who plays the younger brother Sameer (Sam) of Sanjay Dutt, looks
perfect for the part. His love for the bikes looks natural for his personality
and age as shown in the flick. Zayed is able to hold his own ground even before
Akki and Sanju in the film.

Lara Dutta, who plays the part of Sanjay Dutt’s girlfriend Mona, looks sizzling
hot in her bikini sequences. In any case, she has always had a fabulous figure,
but this time it seems just irresistible from the audience’s point of view.

Katrina Kaif, the sizzling hot sexy siren of bollywood who has only seven
minutes role in the film, has added oomph factor to the this marine adventure
flick. Her new look with a pierced lip; will send the audience in a tizzy.

Rahul Dev, who plays the character of drug lord in the film, has portrays his
character with requisite cruelness and villainous flavor. The audience would
love to hate him.

The direction of Anthony D’souza shows spark of genius in his first outing. He
shows his commitment and grand vision in aquatic sequences, which must have
been very difficult to shoot. The bike chase sequence and the other chase
sequence on the running train are worth mentioning in this regard.

It must have taken a lot of courage from Anthony D’souza to envisage a marine
action thriller on a scale which has never been done in bollywood so far. Even
his handling of emotional sequence (Sanju relating his past) is very good. But
climax needed some more punch from the director and could have been more
impressive.

A R Rahman’s music gel well with the mood of the flick. Sanjay-Lara Dutta track
‘Aaj Dil’ is romantic, sexy and sensuous at the same time. Australian singer
Kylie Minogue’s track ‘Chiggy Wiggy’ has already become popular with the
audience.

Resul Pookutty, who had won Oscar for ‘Slumdog Millionaire’, has provided
superb sound design for the film. James Bomalick and R P Yadav have done a
fantastic job with action sequences, which lift the experience of watching it
several notches higher.

Pete Zuccarini’s underwater cinematography has helped the flick in retaining
its unique value for bollywood and the audience. Other production values are
also grand and go well with the grandeur of the flick.

STARDUST VERDICT

Akshay Kumar, Lara Dutta and Katrina Kaif sizzle in this stylized adventurous
marine thriller and should be able to attract viewers to theatres during this
Diwali week. A good fare.
