Hi, Pro Level Digidesign protools is great for both recording and mixing and in the recent versions mastering can also be performed well with few additional plugins. Stein berg Nuendo is also an alternate less expensive option but Pro tools is THE BEST.
For recording and mixing Logic audio the recent studio edition is also a very good product, the one best option available in this the musical sheet where u can write your music notes direclty without playing/play a music and the notation is automatically created. you can do most of the work that you do with Pro tools but pro tools stands first because of their dedicated hardware without that the software wont function. Ableton live/Suite is another software which is extensively used on live performaces as they are famous for easy usage . I ve worked on most of the softwares listed and and i recomend Protools and for ppl who cant afford for the hardware can go for Nuendo. Just a note about other softwares Reason is a digital studio setup - you can virtually use most of the studio equipments like Mixing console, effects processor, etc Cubase - This is one of the best softwares for MIDI works, You can connct your keyboard to this via Midi port and use many music samples available so that just with the keyboard as midi controller u can create great tunes with this samples. There are lots more i hav just given a brief intro .... if more anyone needs more info please feel free to mail me.
