Sivamani, who turned 50 yesterday, speaks about drumming, movies, music and more
He held the drumsticks at the age of seven. He knows A R Rahman from the time
the latter was 10-years-old. He
grew up watching his father playing drums. Just when you think, that
this is what he always wanted to be, he gives a modest reply, "It
wasn't me. It was God who wanted me to make music and give joy to
people."
That's Sivamani, percussionist par excellence, who
turned 50 yesterday. Known for creating music with anything and
everything, even between this particular interview, sitting at the
restaurant, he produces drum-like sounds using nothing but the tissue
paper holder. "It happens all the time at public places. People come to
me with requests of playing something for them and I can't say no to
them. So, I make music with whatever is available," he says.
