Just the topic that had to get me posting...as I had been contemplating the last few days whether to post or not...have been lurking here in the shadows for quite a number of years now :)
My 2-year old son, for the past couple of days, makes me repeat "O Saya" non-stop continuously ignoring all other songs on my Windows Media Player playlist...he can't get enough of it. Last year it was Taxi Taxi...he was almost 1-year old then and no other song other than Taxi Taxi will get him swaying and dancing! Before that it was Azeem o Shaan Shahensah and Khwajaji. Now he's 2 and I played O Saya after a long gap and he got hooked instantly and ever since whenever I'm at the computer, he asks me to play O Saya. Now his most favourite numbers are O Saya and Taxi Taxi...though I should mention that a few months back he liked Pritam's Ba Khuda. But his current rage is O Saya! I started playing Rahman numbers since he was 3 months old...I remember him listening intently to all the soft Rahman numbers I used to play for him..as if he was absorbing all the sounds! I feel Rahman's numbers are also perfect for babies and children, as Rahman creates each song as a spiritual prayer from the depths of his soul...so babies and children take an instant liking to his songs! So there's no fear of corrupting young minds here :) So Jahanzeb bhai, proceed and play him your favourites..you will find your son taking to it naturally. Just as they say that Mozart and Beethoven pieces are good for brain growth, my take is that Rahman numbers are excellent as a brain nourishment...the subtle usage of sound..the overall application of melody and softness even in the fast paced dance numbers..all these reflect his 'direct from the soul' approach!
