Ahhhh music....glorious music....that ever pleasing, soothing, inspiring,
maddening, soul stirring, heart wrenching combination of sounds, rhythms,
harmonies, melodies that add so much color, dimension, and depth to the human
experience; amplifying our emotions and validating them at the same time. We
are musical creatures by evolution....in our genes, our blood, our past,
present, and future. We all love music....every human loves it...we just
differ in terms of style, form, taste. Music in our bodies, in nature,
surrounding us is this big musical sea of sound, that only so few talented
people in this world are able to tap and harness in concentrated form and
communicate so poignantly and effervescently, like a cloud gathering water from
the oceans and pouring nurturing showers to make the earth green and full of
life.
AR Rahman - One of those very special few in this world who is able to
communicate so much through musical forms, a true artiste who is able to
express beyond boundaries and given free reign, capture the hearts and souls of
millions, providing so much happiness, hope, and inspiration in a world
constantly challeged by the evils of greed, corruption, and various other
emotional and physical traumas. He has already set himself apart as a modern
day rennaissance man, artist, musician, globe trotter, humble and
compassionate philanthropist, and to me, a musical saint. Godlike he is not,
but Godlike is his music, yes! Such a refreshing and unheard of combination of
humility, simplicity, compassion yet influence, power, superstar
status.....how can this be? Well, he is a measure of his music as is the music
a measure of himself....AR Rahman the man and AR Rahman's music are not as
distinct, separate entities as one might oridinarily conceive of as music being
a product or creation of an artist. It is the whole being greater than the sum
of its parts....this gestaltic notion bounded by AR's spiritual and faith
oriented consciousness that gives his expressions that stamp of divinity,
enchanted by a sense of timelessness.
Call it the AR Rahman revolution, the AR Rahman experience...whatever name you
like....fact is that it seeps deeply into our daily lives....the notes, the
sounds, and forms......and makes life so much more beautiful and worth it, no
matter our personal hardships.
For me, AR's music has become the soundtrack of my life. It is not the ONLY
soundtrack, but is THE soundtrack. There is a point in time, each and every
day, that AR's music has some positive influence on my mind, my
spirit....whether helping to wash away stress or keep negative thoughts at
bay....and this has nothing to do with any particular song or lyric.....it's
the whole experience...the man, the music, the magic. Thank you, God for
giving me the gift or hearing! Maybe I myself am to blame for this acute
sensitivity, but I am grateful for it too....to be open enough and honest
enough to experience his music in such a way that is unprecedented by any other
musical artist or musical expression in my life thus far.
I am grateful for so much in my life and ARR's music is one of those things in
my life that I am extremely grateful for.
