Global faculty for Rahman’s school

A R Rahman’s K M Conservatory in Chennai is getting bigger. The school for
music will have international faculty, in a bid to give the students global
exposure of music.

Harpist Alison Maggart, percussionist Michael Lindsey, soprano Kavita
Baliga, pianists Andrew Thordahl and Das Daniel, violinists Joshua Pollack
and George Philips and cellist Ellid Martin will form part of the school’s
faculty team.

Founded by Rahman, the aim of K M Conservatory is to fulfill the dreams of
the Mozart of Madras- taking music to the younger generation and producing
world class musicians.

Apart from students who are learning music by paying fees, the school also
teaches free of cost music lessons to students from the schools run by the
Corporation of Chennai. It is planning to admit more students in the future,
sources close to Rahman say.
