When it comes to the psychology of music judgment, a lot of that is indivdualistic/idiosyncratic, but some general observations can apply:
1) New musical ideas and directions are often met with resistance due to auditory inertia and the brain having to accommodate rather than assimilate. 2) Stronger than usual emotional reactions in both negative and positive directions may be seen with higher divergence of opinion. 3) Previous expectations play a bigger role in influencing judgment, esp. during initial exposure stages. 4) Radical paradigm shifts come as a shock and evoke extreme reactions 5) Such extreme reactions usually temper with time as the concepts become more mainstream and accepted along with exposure therapy. VTV, a path breaking album with new musical ideas, concepts, directions, sounds, may be applicable to the above observations, hence the wide variety of reactions I am seeing all over the internet in response to this music, which is not at all unusual for a new ARR album.
