Rahman to set tune to Tamil meet theme songTIMES NEWS NETWORK

Chennai: After roping in several eminent personalities to work for the World
Classical Tamil Conference to be held in Coimbatore in June, chief minister
M Karunanidhi on Friday got a prize catch in A R Rahman. The Oscar-winning
composer will set the tune for the theme song of the conference, which is
being showcased as a major event before Karunanidhi’s retirement.
On Friday, Karunanidhi made public his verse explaining its theme. A day
earlier, Rahman called on the chief minister at his residence to discuss the
tune for the song. Famous poet and lyricist Javed Akthar and singer Bombay
Jayashree accompanied the composer, who would set the tune for Karunanidhi’s
verse. Deputy CM MK Stalin, Sun Network chairman Kalanithi Maran and Rajya
Sabha MP Kanimozhi were also present during the discussion.
In the song, Karunanidhi has captured the essence and growth of Tamil
literature over two millennia, “which has survived the vicissitudes of
time”. It starts with the core theme of the conference, the universal
thought: ‘Bybirth, all lives are equal.’ It was selected as official logo of
the international meet.
The song goes on to suggest that war and violence should be shunned and
instead the path of love, peace and reconciliation chosen. It expresses the
egalitarian ethos that wealth should be made accessible to all.
The song describes Tamil as a classical language.
