Anybody having a free account on wiki can add modify information there. Normally, such wiki modifiers are supposed to be responsible enough to put only confirmed news there, but the name of the modifier is recorded in the page history, so people see advertisement of their name and have started putting any information that they come to know about without bothering to confirmed its authenticity.
So, don't take wiki information as gospel truth. Wiki is good only for well-known information, not for "breaking news".
