Ranjha ranjha is surely Bhairavi..no where close 2 Peelu...Bhairavi is a
complete Raga...the composer has the liberty of using all 12 swaras in this
raga..so sumwer u may feel glimpses of another raga...but the base is
Bhairavi...Thok de killi also is based on Bhairavi..apart frm the 1st Shehnai
interlude...it resembles a lot 2 interlude of 'Rang hai' frm Meenaxi wer ARR hs
quite intellegently transposed the scale..makin it sound completely diff frm
Bhairavi...in Thok de..also he's used a major scale 1st & then returning bk 2
Bhairavi (minor scale)....the fusion is awesum..Agree with ur 'Spirit of
Rangeela' similarity..m completely hookd on 2 this albumKhilli re is vivid in
its raga-appeal...lots of glimpses of Pahadi,Kalavati,Patdeep,Yaman...the
interlude is a cracker...vintage stuff here! The antara sounds a lot like a
Naushad or S.D.Burman song specially in the lines' Saari raat mehki hai...sej
suhani kar jaa'...he's used a Komal Dhaivat...sounds a
lot like S.D's Bandini or Sujata..or Naushad's Baiju Bawra or Mughal-e-aazam...

      Swaps,

Thok De Killi and Behne De have the bhairavi flavour for sure. Infact, I felt
that the interludes of Thok De Killi, particularly the string portions are
reminiscent of "Spirit of Rangeela". Not exactly same, but somewhat similar,
which got enhanced further by the style of execution.

But can you please confirm if Raanjha Raanjha is Bhairavi? I am not completely
sure? Somewhere i sense Raag Peelu as well.

And one of my expectations was that there could be a Veena based song in this
album. It was just my expectation, because legend says that Raavana invented
the instrument - Rudra Veena and that he was a great musician. I am surprised
that there isnt any Veena based song. I know it is too far fetched to expect,
but then Mani-ARR did display some lateral-thinking master strokes in the past.

Regards
Aakarsh

I am sensing Bhairavi or variations of it in Ranjha Ranjha, Thok De
Killi. In Behene De, I sense a mixture of raagas....
