Gulzar and ARR have definitely something to do with repeated word songs.
Remember 'Chaiyaa Chaiyaa', 'Maiyaa Maiyaa'.
Now 'Kata kata', 'Beera Beera' and 'Ranjha Ranjha.

Even in other songs, notice carefully how the words repeat; for example:
1.Dil se re, dil se re, dil se re eeeeeee...
2.Behne de mujhe behne de, mujhe behne de behne de...
3.Tuhitu, tuhitu, tuhitu satrangi re
4.Khili re, khili re, raat....
5.Aye udi udi udi...
6.Chalka Chalka re..
7.Chupke se, chupke se...
8.Sathiya hoho, Sathiya hoho... (also hansti rahe tu hansti rahe)
9.Barso re mehga megha, barso re mehga megha, berso re megha barso...
10.Tere bina Beswadi beswadi ratiyan

Intersting, that's all.
