I think DVD Audio CD is another multi channel format. Both SACD and DVD Audio did not catch on and or on their way out.
I am finding it really hard or expensive to find SACDs. In my opinion unless the original artist endorses the multi channel mix like Pink Floyd did for DSoM and Depeche Mode did for their remasters or the original recording itself is in Sorround, it can sound gimmicky. Theres a format call DTS HD audio which can be converted into 2 channel audio, but so can any format be converted into CD format. The only surround sound audio CD available is called SACD ( Super Audio CD), which has a surround layer and a normal CD layer. This plays only in SACD compatbible players ( look for SACD logo) in your system. All sony 5.1 home theatres play it. I have one SACD of a country music artist and its just brilliant!!! !.Its very rare, but available.
