Shekhar Kapur is one of the rare directors who enjoy a stronghold over both, Indian and Western cinema. At the 63rd Cannes film festival, Kapur who also is a part of the jury, introduced the first look of his latest project titled, Paani. The film will be directed by Kapur himself, although the script is written by David Farr. The Oscar winning music composer A.R.Rahman is composing the music of the film and has said to be completed two songs already for the magnimous project. The official synopsis of the movie states that Paani is a futuristic love story set in a mega city where water becomes a rare commodity and this scarcity leads to dire circumstances. The movie divides the society into two conflicting halves, in which the upper city holds all the water supply and transfers a minimal amount to the lower city. The love story takes place between a girl from the upper half of the city and a rat boy in the lower half. According to the Hollywood Reporter magazine, the budget of the film is $30 million (approx rupees 135 crores) and is produced by Swarovski Entertainment and Adlabs founder-turned-producer Manmohan Shetty. Kapur plans to start shooting in November. After receiving international recognition through his masterpiece Bandit Queen, and making a permanent space for himself in Hollywood with Elizabeth, Kapur wishes to make a strong impact on international cinema as well as deliver a message through his new project Paani.
