AR Rahman’s tour is fast approaching and MTV Iggy caught a glimpse of his
rehearsals in Washington,
D.C.<http://www.mtviggy.com/slideshow/slideshow-ar-rahman-backstage>
Rahman
let us film a sneak peek of “O’Saya” as he ran through a full
dress-rehearsal for the song. Here is a little rundown of what you can
expect:

*Stage:*
The stage is a grandiose spectacle. The backdrop of this show are two large
columns that hold up a minaret-looking cover. Within that structure lies an
immense LED backlit display. And that’s not to mention the extreme light
show<http://blog.mtviggy.com/2010/04/21/a-r-rahman-brings-new-stage-technology-indian-culture-to-journey-home-tour/>

on
top of the whole thing that seemingly brings you to another world.

But that’s not it! There are also plenty of moving parts too, including a
staircase that has hidden trapped doors and compartments where dancers
emerge on stage. Make sure you catch the dancer in a classical bharatanatyam
outfit arise in the video above!

In front of the main stage is a large circular
platform<http://www.mtviggy.com/slideshow/slideshow-ar-rahman-backstage?image=8#slideshow>
that
will hold a pit audience. The crew call it the trust. It looks so
lightweight that you have to trust that it will hold you! Don’t worry
back-flipping dancers, it’s incredibly sturdy.

*Dancers:*
These model-bodied, energetic performers are the hardest working guys and
gals in the business. Show director Amy
Tinkham<http://www.mtviggy.com/slideshow/slideshow-ar-rahman-backstage?image=4#slideshow>
expects
her dancers to perform step after step until it looks perfect. I wish I
could muster the amount of energy these people give in one song for my whole
day. That’s not even mentioning that they perform in 19 out of the 37 songs
on the set list!

*Set List:*
AR Rahman’s catalog is kind of immense. So he’s really expanded his set list
to get as many of his songs in there as possible. An average set list for a
tour this size is 15 songs. AR packed 37 songs in for a two and a half hour
extravaganza.

*Band:*
Would you expect anything less than the best from AR Rahman? It sounds
awesome!

*AR Rahman:*
He has conquered Bollywood, won a Golden Globe Award, two Grammy Awards and
two Academy Awards and now might have another win under his belt with this
tour. All he needs to do is survive the massive amount of tour dates!
