Weekend openings matter because they do this carpet bombing of prints for the opening weekend.
If the film opens at 70% occupancy for the opening weekend and sustains to 40 to 50% occupancy for the first week then the cost plus is recovered more or less, unless its a big budget film. I mean really big budget...
