AMIT TRIVEDI is good... But he is more in the lines of SHANKAR EHSAAN LOY than ARR! Amit's tunes and arrangements are in trademark SEL style. Maybe, he would come somewhere close to SEL after another 5-7 years, but NEVER close to ARR, because, ARR's style was TOTALLY different and path-breaking right from his initial days. Take ARR's earliest works like ROJA, THIRUDA THIRUDA, KADHALAN, PUDHIYAMUGHAM and YODHA. And see HOW much variation is there in each soundtrack. Each one is fresh and entirely different from the others, and the TUNES were TOTALLY UNUSUAL and arrangements were unpredictable and path-breaking! BUt that is NOT the case of AMIT TRIVEDI. His DEV D, UDAAN, AISHA or AAMIR. All are good, but his concepts have been almost the SAME after DEV D, in each soundtrack! He has offerings are interesting, but never path-breaking!
Comparison of Amit with ARR would be very chilidish!! Comparisons with Vishal Sekhar, Salim Sulaiman etc would be fair, and to an extent, with SEL too, since he carries their style! Amit certainly is a promise to Bollywood..and Iam sure he wud do films down south too, in the near future!
