Have to agree that some of the familiar names in a usual AR concert were
greatly
missed. Lovely to see the performing AR- something that we haven't seen as much
in the older concerts. What struck me hard in these concerts is that how big an
international brand AR is now and whether he likes it or not will probably need
to cater to that. I guess we have lost those days where AR was known as India's
most talented musician - only to us South Asians. Now the world knows that and
as an audience we have to share the space with a much more diverse group of
people. I have always wanted this for Rahman's music. But a small part of me
sometimes wishes that we could go back to those simple days when we weren't
even
aware of when a AR soundtrack would be released or when we could go to a AR
concert and expect to see Hariharan, SPB, Sadhana and Kavitha share the stage
with AR behind a piano and do an entire unplugged session with him.

Subject: [arr] some positives/negatives of london concert

Hello all,
Just thought I would share some of my feelings of the recent london o2 arena
concert. This is the 4th time I am watching ARR concert live. Generally
compared
to his early concerts the scale of the stage sets and choreography was
grandiose, ARR was also singing and performing with much more ease, some of
ARR's underrated gems such as Hello Mr Ethirkatchi were used. There were
somethings I was sorely missing though. Absence of a big scale orchestra was
obvious [Srinivasa Murthy used to conduct before], and also Sivamani, there
were
few well known singers apart from Hariharan and Benny Dayal [some new faces
were
filling the gaps although they sounded quite alright, what happened to
Srinivas,
sukhvinder, Karthik, Udit Narayan etc], there were no chorus singers visible at
all on stage strangely, the concert started 30 mins late but finished on time
which felt abrupt as though everyone was hurry to pack up for the next concert.
Lastly everone was expecting Alphons Joseph to sing Aromale but he never did.
I am a hardcore ARR fan but honestly prefer his old style of concerting as the
current tour seems to be more style than substance.
Apologies for sounding despondent.
Madhu
