Great , then!! I can contribute in terms of collecting song names and singers
who have sung them! But who will initiate in building this database backend at
first now?

Glad to see this outpouring of enthusiasm. Hopefully, it will sustain. I, among
others, have tried various forms of this previously that did not culminate in
anything (beyond my discography, which too hasn't been updated in a year) as
time turned out to be a major constraint. Some of the modes we have considered
includes static web lists, wikis and databases. In my opinion, a database at
the backend is probably the best with front end forms for querying. Depending
on how simple or complex it turns out, something like Zoho Creator might work
too. What's needed is the involvement of people who are well versed with
database design AND those that can source information. If we can do a good
enough job of this there is potential to make it official. Next steps perhaps
include forming a core team, identifying the types of information we want
stored, design the schema and then create and populate.

I can work on the technical side of it. (Development and design). But will
really appreciate if someone can assist as well.  I will need some help from
you guys about collecting the info from the group. it seems like a lot. but if
we collectively do it, we can finish it in within a month or two (including the
development).

I will also need some input in choosing the domain

I thought of some

ARDB.in

arrinfo.org

i tried some domains that has ar rahman in the name, but they all seem to have
been taken.

As for hosting and domain, I don't mind paying for it. I have a dedicated
server where I host my clients.

so, to sum it up

1. website as a database of information on ar rahman and his music.

2. categorized, search-able contents like Reviews, Information, Singers,
Instrumentalists, Instruments Used, Places performed, Debuts, quotes,
interviews etc.

3. Quality contents from the group.  like awesome reviews of AJ and Gayathri
and the rest of those people who write good contents. of course, with credits
and links to their blogs  / websites etc, if they have any.

please contribute your suggestions.

That gives me another idea.  how about a website with all the info about AR
Rahman, his singers, his songs, Genres, and all the other info we find from our
group ? we can make it as an extension of this group.  there won't be any forum
or anything.. just info.

I would love to do it.

Hi Gopal and the rest,

I have read many e-mails containing useful data in this group before. Just like
Arvind's unique list of intro songs for singers there have been other lists
such as Mother songs, child singers lists, raaga based lists and several other
extremely interesting lists. I strongly feel that we should have all of this
documented as part of the group? Any suggestions on how this can be done?
Database? I am happy to put in time to dig out useful data from old e-mails.
