Adam, I am actually very disappointed in how Remedy decided to integrate to SC (source control) systems in general. ( IMHO ) They violated most of their basic design when they decided to let the windows admin client have a feature/function that the ARS server did not have. Not to mention that the way they implemented SC in ARS really does not give you a way to "export all related as a single SC version". (For release management concepts from your SC system.) What we were give is a very fine grain implementation but the "consolidated" objects like Applications and Packing lists do NOT grab all other objects contained in them when they go to SC. (A darn shame too.)
However, such an extension would have some value for some ARS customers. (and should be possible from such a "Open source IDE" platform) And maybe could even deal with some of my issues with how the SC system was implemented in the first place. Carey, I'll go you one better... Allow the BMC/Remedy ARS Eclipse plug-in to work with the TortoiseSVN plug-in to Eclipse. NOTE: I'm not a developer, but have been looking at Eclipse and SVN as tools to provide to my C developers. Sure there are some headaches with the idea. But here is what I was thinking. :) Something like ARSDocs, but with some basic edit options too. :) Start with Eclipse and the ARS Java API. Build an Eclipse Plugin that allows you to: Connect to an ARS server (as an admin only please) List objects In ways that describe the relationships of the objects. Think a tree object like the "by prefix" does in the Admin tool, but more... much more... Create/edit simple objects (Filters, Active link, menus...etc... Forms are a lot more difficult than the rest of these objects. ;) I really think that much of an open sourced tool to AUGMENT (not replace) Admin tool features could help BMC see what we need to do better development in ARS. I have kicked the tires a bit and I do not yet see anything that would prevent this from being possible with enough community support. So I put the question to you (ARSList).... Who wants it enough to kick in some Java development time to get this party started? -- Carey Matthew Black Remedy Skilled Professional (RSP) ARS = Action Request System(Remedy) Solution = People + Process + Tools Fast, Accurate, Cheap....
