We've never hit it, and we've had quite a few people throwing quite a lot of data at the diary field on our helpdesk form.
On the other hand, the diary field is a fairly awkward thing to use - whilst its handy, it offers very little functionality. I put a generic work log into place (I'm sure a lot of others have done as well), a separate form, each entry has a large text field, can be categorised, linked to a ticket, etc. I was very pleasantly surprised to see that ITSM 7 has something along those lines. Its been a long time coming, thats for sure.
Out of interest - why are you asking? Do you have a feeling that you will be pushing the potential limits of the field, and are just checking in advance, or are you just plain wondering?
Ciao,
Dave

Anyone know what the inherent limit is to the number of characters for a diary field? I know a lot of folks think it's unlimited, but I'm pretty certain there's a limit-it's just a very high limit. Anyone know off the top their head?
