As an example, I save a search on a user form with the name "grendel" - but if I then search my "C" drive for "gren*.*" I don't get a hit. I would have thought it would be stored locally.... ???

** What type of stored search?
What a user saves on a form?
A predefined query that a developer adds to a form?

there should be a form called something along the lines of
"SHR:Report-Saved..."  Pull up that form from the object list and run the
search. All of your saved searches should come up.
