with OpenLDAP i had a similar problem. You should check the Permissions of your Bind User. I´m not familiar with Directory Server but maybe yout arplugin.log might give a good hint.

I can attest to that statement and I missed it completely. The user you use must have access to the elements you want to read. Since I work in a closed lab environment, I created a Domain Admin as my LDAP user. I suggest that you get with your AD team and get a Read-Only user into the AD forest you want to access and have read-only permissions for those elements that you need. LDP.exe is definitely your friend at this moment.
