Please see below the ticket I submitted to Remedy Support. I need to
understand how to view any components that we have already returned to
inventory. When I look in the Manage Inventory, I can only see 1
occurrence of the software that was returned, but it does not show the
number of components returned to inventory for that particular software
product.

Please advise if you have information that can help.

Component software license counts for a partcular Category, Type, Item
(CTI) do not match the total when we run the AssetCompJoin report.
Since we track all software components per asset, these should balance.
We are seeing a much higher count of components for a particular CTI
than the count on the AssetCompJoin report.

Discovered that some administrators were returning components to
inventory when the asset status was changed to "In Inventory". And,
some administrators were highlighting the component and actually
deleting it (via Actions > Delete).

Need to understand purpose of using Return to Inventory on the component
tab. If we have an asset that is going to be "shelfed" and we set
the status to "In Inventory", what is the proper way to remove the
components associated with that asset? Should we highlight a component
on the COMPONENT tab of the asset record and select the Return To
Inventory or double-click on the component and then choose
Action/Delete??

Is the Return to Inventory feature specifically intended to use with the
Manage Inventory feature?

I have researched the "Return to Inventory" process in the 5.6 User's
Guide and although information is detailed on how to peform the
function, no reason is given on when it is best to use this feature.
