Thanks - I got it installed without shutting down server #1.  During the CMDB and HD installations I got a message that the apps were already installed.  Remedy support sent me KB 24072 as a solution to that - it involves copying the bin directories from server 1 over to server 2 for cmdb, reconciliation engine, and help desk, and updating ar.conf and armonitor.conf.

Thanks for the help!

John,

I'm not sure if you got a response to this... but here goes...

You assume correct.. The first server doesn't have to be shut down during the install of the second server... The second server can be set up independently and now the new apps have the ability to ignore the import of workflow during the installation process so none of the forms will be written to as well. All you would need to do is install the application in the same path as was done on the first server as some of the application meta data will have references to some binaries contained in this path...

Cheers

Joe

Subject: Installation question

**

Hello all!

We've completed the installation of ARS 6.3, email, mid-tier, CMDB, and Help Desk on the first of our servers, and now we're getting ready to do the second server.  The servers will be set up in a server group, both connecting to the same database.

I have a couple questions before I start in on the second set of installations: does the first server need to have ARS shut down during the installation on the second server, or can it continue to run?  I would assume that the first server could keep chugging along since the second server isn't supposed to update any of the database tables when using the 'shared' database option.  Second, when installing CMDB on the first machine, I made sure to first go in and delete all of the BMC* and OBJSTR* forms, workflow, and menus, and the cmdb install directory prior to rerunning the installation, as it was having issues otherwise.  Now that the first server is up and running with everything installed on it, will the second server generate errors during the CMDB and HD installations if it notices that the forms and workflow are already there, or will it accept the existing data during the install?

Thanks,

John Hanson
