Also at play here is that "&" is used to indicate shortcut keys on the menu bar, and seems to sort of function like that on regular character menus as well.

From page 590 of the 6.3 Basic Guide:
"To designate one character of the menu or the menu item as an accelerator
key, enter a single ampersand (&) before the character in each menu or menu
item. For example, if you want to create a menu labelled AR &System, the letter
S is underlined in the menu to indicate that it is an accelerator key for that
item."

But then of course you have page 357 of the Basic Guide:
"Note: Avoid using the & (ampersand) character in menu item names.
The & character behaves differently in Remedy User and web clients and
can produce unexpected results."

Anyway, that might explain a little bit about why the "&" is disappearing.

Stephen,

I was going to suggest that but then the next time the menu is used Lisa's users would get the BS. And we don't want to give our users any BS ;^>
Lisa could always push to a Display only filed and do the REPLACE but though you save on db storage you work the server every time that field needs to be displayed with one &.
That's why I asked if the menu used the same field for Label and Value.
Have a nice weekend all,

This is true for many Windows applications.  In ARS, when you need to display the value (not in a menu) you could use the REPLACE() function to change && into &.

Thanks John,

I just wanted to make sure there wasn't anything that I was doing wrong.

Lisa,
Yes I have and it is "as designed". Doubling the & escapes it from its normal role a a concatenation operator.
If your menu uses the same field for Label and Value you will see B&S in the menu but B&&S will be pasted to the field.
You can't do much about it because the field is working double-duty.

The "&" Character and Menus

**

I have a search menu that calls the same form that the Menu is actually on (does that make sense?)

When I type something like B&S into my field, hit save, then check the Menu, it comes up as "BS"

When I type something like B&&S into my field, hit save, then check the Menu, it comes up as "B&S"

Has anyone seen this before?
