I haven't tried it on UNIX as yet, but I wouldn't be surprised if that bug exists on the installation script on 7 as well.. If it does error at the time of checking the version, all you need to do is check the install script and modify the OS version minimum declaration value.

 

A hint for installing the CMDB part... open the CMDB installation script.. you will notice that it installs the product in 2 installation stages.. first the reconcilation engine, and then the CMDB application component..

 

I would advise you to run the reconcilation engine installation first (though the script does that). In my experience the installation is known to fail with timeouts if you use the installation script to run the entire installation of the CMDB component.. I have noticed that if you install the reconcile engine first, complete that and then run the 2nd stage of the installation seperately, it runs nicely... When you open the installation script using a unix text editor, you will find the name of the executable it uses to run the reconcilation engine and the filename of the executable that is used to run the CMDB application component later...

 

What I also would do while installing it is tail the install log while installing using the tail -f option. This allows you to view the silent part of the installation as the install log displayed line by line as the installation progresses... I usually do this even while installing the AR Server so I get to know whats going on behind the scene when things appear to have 'hung'.. At the end of the installation you can kill the tail process. Off course you will need to run the tail process from another shell..

Yes for ARS 6.3 you can use the 64 bit Oracle 10g database but you do need the 32 bit 9i client for the ARS to make that connection. I can confirm this as I had recently gone through that process.

I also ran into an issue for those who want to install ARS 6.3 on Solaris 5.10, the installation script has a bug in it in the way it validates the version of the OS. It requires the version of the OS to be at 5.6. However with the way it validates the OS version it thinks that version 5.10 is 5.1, and since 5.1 is less than 5.6 the installation fails. For those installing it on 5.10 you would need to edit the installation script where it declares the min OS version for solaris as 5.6 and change that parameter to 5.1 just for the purpose of installation..

We recently reported this bug to Remedy Support and the workaround we used for it and we were given to understand they would attempt to fix the bug in the next patch release for ARS 6.3...
