For those that have purchased laptops, recently. Has any laptop maker designed a model with a keyboard that raises, separates or folds-out? I ask because it would be nice to have a laptop with an ergonomic keyboard without hooking up an external one.

IBM - now Lenovo Dell HP / Compaq. All of these have dual-core, & 4GB memory capacity, huge drives, but here are other things to look at for your decision. Screen Size / Resolution Keyboard Size & Built in Mouse Obviously you need to spend the $ and get a DVD burner, built in wireless, etc. Think more about "usability and reliability" in your system choice... My "personal" development environment at home makes a nice comparison to what you would like to do, just with some OS differences... 4GB system, dual core processor. Base OS is XP Pro 64 bit Virtualization is done with Microsoft Virtual Server DB-OS - Windows 2003 Server with SQL 2005 enterprise Guest-OS - Windows 2003 Server with IIS6 & ARsystem 7X + Apps Guest-OS - Fedora FC5 with Apache & ARsystem 7X + Apps Each of the OS is allocated 1.5GB memory, and obviously I only run one "Guest-OS" at a time. This setup allows me to have the DB in a separate process space from the application space. This matches reality in most shops that I visit (separated DB and AR Systems). Since MS-VServer only allocates 1 processor per guest, XP handles it quite well, using an individual CPU per guest. Sometimes I think the performance I obtain at home is better than at work :) Thanks-n-advance; HDT Platform Incident / Problem Manager & Architect Robert Molenda IT OS PA Tel: +1 408 501 6310 Fax: +1 408 501 2410 Mobile: +1 408 472 8097 [EMAIL PROTECTED] Quality begins with your actions. -----Original Message----- From: Action Request System discussion list(ARSList) [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Rick cook Sent: Sunday, November 12, 2006 6:19 AM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: Spec for a demo laptop Well, I can tell you that you'll have a bit of a struggle running all of that on the 2 GB of RAM that is the max for most laptops. If you can get 4 GB, go for it. I am buying a new laptop to use as a Remedy demo system. I would like to run Linux, Oracle, AR, and all ITSM 7 modules on it without it running slowly. I will probably be running VMWare on it as well. Can anyone recommend a good laptop that can handle all of this? Has anyone had had a good experience with a particular model? Many Thanks, Michael. ________________________________________________________________________ ____ ___ UNSUBSCRIBE or access ARSlist Archives at www.arslist.org ARSlist:"Where the Answers Are" ________________________________________________________________________ _______ UNSUBSCRIBE or access ARSlist Archives at www.arslist.org ARSlist:"Where the Answers Are" ________________________________________________________________________ _______ UNSUBSCRIBE or access ARSlist Archives at www.arslist.org ARSlist:"Where the Answers Are" _______________________________________________________________________________ UNSUBSCRIBE or access ARSlist Archives at www.arslist.org ARSlist:"Where the Answers Are"
