Has any one had experience (good or bad) with using Microsoft Software Load
Balancing on Windows 2003 with Mid-Tier 6.3?

We've recently set up two MT servers using MSLB and while internal testing
went well, we're seeing a few problems (internal server errors) now that
real users are hitting the boxes. We've been unable to reliably reproduce
the errors. Flushing the MT cache worked the first time we had the problem,
but not the second time (had to restart one of the servers).

Since this is the first time we've used SLB with ARS-MT, we're feeling a bit
in-secure about it's stability or impact on the environment. BMC has not
been able to provide much guidance (they neither support nor dissaprove of
SLB) and we're currently evaluating the merits of keeping the SLB
configuration or pursuing another avenue. That said, I'd like to hear from
anyone who has experience with a similar setup, especially any lessons
learned about troubleshooting.

Environment Details: I should note that we're currently in the middle of a
5.1.2 to 6.3 upgrade and at the moment we have 6.3 MT pointing at a 5.1.2
back-end. The back end will be upgraded in ~90 days as we complete
application migrations to support the new Mid-Tier and licensing requirements.

2x Server OS: Solaris 9
2x Database: Oracle 8.1.2
2x AR Servers: 5.1.2
2x Mid Tier: 6.3 patch 18 on WS-2003.

There are currently two Mid-Tier boxes using MS Software Load Balancing.
Both Mid-Tiers point at the two seperate ARS servers (with seperate
databases). The Mid-Tiers live in the DMZ while the ARS servers are
internal. The firewalls appear to be correct but I'm not prepared to rule
them out entirely.

Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Ben Byers
