Have you considered using a table field with an external qualifier on a display only form? You could have the user fill in fields with values for Category etc and pick a "search template" (like active calls only) that would define the search, then use active links to build a qualification based off the values that they did or didn't supply and the predefined "search template" they selected.

I've used variations on this in the past.

the values would pass thru and display the results list for the query.

 

I believe I read do a set field, with multiple matches. 

I want all the multiple matches to display in the results field though.

 

Is there a better solution?

 

And the create date values never work for me.
