Hi Chris,

Select the integer fields, Cut, Save, then Paste. Now you can change the field type before you save again and they will retain the same id and permissions.

This will work for changing the field types without breaking the workflow. This technique works great if you change your mind while you are still in development. However, you will lose all data in those fields. I do not know what happens if you change the data type in your development environment and then import it into production. You will probably want to try it using a test form first.
