Thanks to all those who replied.  I can't get the whole story,
since we've destroyed the evidence, but it seems to be a case
of one shortcut calling another shortcut resulting in circular
calls and multiple window openings.  The solution was, of
course, to junk the shortcuts.

Thanks, Fred. The problem seems to be in a faulty launching
icon. I've asked the guy to dig it out of the recycle bin and
see what the "Properties" say, but he doesn't have time to do
