Hi Tony, At one of our clients we're doing the same thing. We've discussed the ITIL approach of services that run over telecom equipment as well as the appropriate CMDB Class structures to use. We've played around with issues such as what location is affected if the telecom equipment spreads across states. Routing rules....All very fun stuff... I'd like to compare notes with you as well as anyone else who wants to jump onto this thread. One of the questions my clients ask is "What's Best Practice". It seems to me that we are sort of developing Best Practice...either by what we do that works or by learning from what doesn't.... Talk to you soon, Tim

Categorization was a recent major topic within our group as well when it referred to the telecom world (We track anything from hubs, routers, extending the cmdb to include circuits, etc). Our decisions basically came down to the simpler we could keep things within remedy the better off it looked like we would be. For example, the deeper down in the class structure you went the more complicated it appears you will be making your reporting. If you would like to talk specifics feel free and email with more detailed questions and I would be happy to compare thoughts. _______________________________________________________________________________ UNSUBSCRIBE or access ARSlist Archives at www.arslist.org ARSlist:"Where the Answers Are" _______________________________________________________________________________ UNSUBSCRIBE or access ARSlist Archives at www.arslist.org ARSlist:"Where the Answers Are"
