My first thoughts would be to query the meta-data to see if that same database name does exist as a record for that schema ID as a result of some legacy work done on the server you are importing the .def to. I'm assuming there must be some sort of logic in the AR System that if a duplicate record exist with the same database name as you describe, to handle that duplicate by using its database ID as the name to prevent an absolute error resulting in an import error.
