I thought that I heard somewhere, sometime ago that macros were going to become obsolete, and that there were going to be tools made available that would help convert them. I am certain that the UT will still support them for sometime to come, but why?
Honestly, macros remind me of the Vax/VMS - it was something of a plague that needed to be stamped out of existence. To that end, I don't even recommend their use.
