My organization has had Smart Reporting and we use Remedy onDemand. The tool is powerful and can deliver the reports but it's been buggy when it comes to calculating date/time queries. We are also having issues with the way user sessions are translated from ITSM to smart reporting. The handoff of the session is not clean. I don't know that you can run direct sql. You would probably need to create the views and the queries using the GUI and then view the SQL.
