At Infineon, we have servers in each region (AP,EU,NA), which tickets
between the servers, there are "Global Entries" (such as People
Information, CTI, Location, etc) and then the separate "ticket"
information.

For example we only replicate Incidents / Change Requests if the group
condition matches a "global match condition" (Group is global, or group
is regionalized doing global support - Example is the 24x7 Lotus Notes
team is only located in Bratislava and they utilize only the EU Server)

We have had really no issues with DSO however I do have to say:

* We use simple Ticket Replication
* We do not use Ticket locking.

To increase performance, and to ease coding, I have written a "DSO
Wrapper & Accelerator" which works very nicely. (IMHO that is :-) )

We also use DSO to synchronize "Configuration Information" between
"Production to Test" and "Production to Development" on a periodic basis
(usually before a full regression test cycle), which is quite handy
:-):-) sure beats the "export / import" business...

One other thing we do is that for extended outages (usually data center
related), we have 'backup accounts' on the remote servers for the
call-centers to use. This way they can still enter the tickets, and when
their server becomes available those tickets will replicate back...

As the others have mentioned, DSO is a very nice feature, it all depends
upon your needs. Possibly if you could share those with us we could
directly comment more.

<RANT>

When will Remedy (whoops BMC) take into consideration [AND $USER$ !=
"Distributed Server"] in any filter that performs MERGE OPERATIONS???

FORM Prefixing - When will they support a "Server Prefix" AND a "Default
Value"... Example: HPD:HelpDesk "default value" = HPD - in order to DSO
these properly we must manually update the prefix to "__HPD" where __ is
AP,EU,NA

We use DSO quite a bit with some good success. But giving an opinion on
whether you should use it or not, without knowing anything about how you
want to implement it or what you are doing is difficult to do.

All,

We are a global organization and are discussing the possible
implementation of DSO. Does anyone have an opinion?
