David, I think Doug's point is that it isn't the first time a patch has
shown "less than complete" Engineering and/or QA, and so what I'm sure are
very sincere promises from you are nice, but...we've kinda heard this song
before. We know that patches aren't tested to the same level as releases,
and that's fine, but it seems that some patches are more problematic than
others, and if there are process-related issues at fault for that, we will
appreciate those being actually dealt with.

Yes. QA tests the patches and then BMC uploads the patches to the FTP site
once they are found to be of GA quality. The issue you're seeing on Patch
021 is because the upload is taking an inordinate amount of time (18-20
hours for the 2.5GB patch) coupled with the fact that Support Central was
incorrectly updated to show the availability of the patch prior to the
upload being completed. Folks internally are aware of this situation and
are discussing how to make sure it does not happen in the future.

Good Sir,

In the interests of saving your customers from both
1) wasted time, which is a certainty with your current procedure, and
2) potential hazard from partial updates, which is a likelihood therewith,
might it not make sense to set the permissions of a download directory to
make it invisible to customers until its contents have been verified by BMC
to be both complete and correct?

Maybe I am suffering from delusions of obviousness again? If so, my most
humble apologies.

Does someone at BMC download each newly uploaded update and install it per
the documentation provided to assure quality before you release it to
customers?

Thanks for keeping us informed as the update is uploaded, but the need for
you to do so seems to me to be artificially induced by a poorly designed and
loosely validated process.

Peace,
Doug Anderson

According to the folks I've talked to, the patch is still uploading. I
would suggest waiting until tomorrow to retrieve the patch. It should
be done uploading by then.
