Michael,
Depending on how much processing you need to do....
A View field would allow a user to do the "processing" manually.
A filter plugin could work.
A command line process on your ARS server could work ( Perl [maybe
with wget] would like get the job done nicely.) with some additional
workflow to get the values to the DB/fields of interest.
A Data Visualization could also work and be client side, but would required v7.
You have some options and each comes with their own strengths and costs.
