Hi Guillaume;

I am unclear why support would have told you that - perhaps the
question you asked was phrased in such a way that they thought you
wanted to download Hummingbird without AR System? In any case, BMC
Remedy AR System customers should not go to Hummingbird to obtain the
SearchServer. If you go to the download site and select AR System
Server version 7.0.01, one of the selectable items for download on the
next screen will be "Full Text Search". I just went onto the support
site and confirmed this myself.

The release notes contain the needed information on how to install FTS
(Hummingbird) on page 54.

The serial number is, in fact, printed in the release notes on page 55
for Windows and page 57 for Unix. Therefore you do not have to go to
Hummingbird to download the Search Server nor to license it.

David,

what if you don't have the ARS installation CDs? If I download ARS 7.0.1
from BMC support, does the server installer include the SearchServer?

I had also submitted a ticket to support, and this is support's reply,
which again contradicts yours IMHO:

You will need to install the hummingbird before you install the FTS. You
will also need to license the Hummingbird through the vendor
(http://www.hummingbird.com/support/dkm/registration.html)
<http://www.hummingbird.com/support/dkm/registration.html)>

The hummingbird has their package with their installer. Please, call
hummingbird customer support and tell them what you are trying to do.
They will provide you all the necessary information about hummingbird
including the installation.

It seems to me all this should be clearly documented in the 7.0
Configuration guide

Guillaume

If you think of the physical box that AR System comes in, the
Hummingbird Search Server is its own CD. However, it does come in every
box of AR System.

installation.

That is correct - the SearchServer has its own installation executable.
However, that installation CD comes with AR System.

Full Text Search product must still be licensed to activate the
functionality.

That is also correct. There is a global key for Hummingbird to activate
the SearchServer itself. There is a separate license key for AR System
to activate Full Text Search - which is a function within AR System that
uses the Hummingbird Search Server.

Thank your for your reply David.

However your reply raises more questions. In page 7 of the presentation
"Understanding Full Text Search in BMC Remedy AR System v7", done by Bob
Poulos from BMC during BUW 2006, it is clearly stated this, which
contradicts your statement:
Hummingbird SearchServer is installed as a separate product using the
vendor's installation.

-No search engine product files are included in the AR System
installation.

-A global key is provided to install the search engine; however the Full
Text Search product must still be licensed to activate the
functionality.

Hi Guillaume,

The Hummingbird SearchServer 5.4 used with FTS for AR System 7.0.01
comes with AR System. Therefore, when you download AR System from the
BMC website, you get the Hummingbird SearchServer. You would not go to
the Hummingbird web site.

Licensing of FTS is purchased separately from AR System itself, but
the code comes with every AR System.

Thanks,

Subject: Hummingbird SearchServer download - where?

**
 Hello List,

Where do I download the Hummingbird SearchServer 5.4 installer that
would be used for a Remedy FTS? from the BMC website or from the
hummingbird web site?

Thanks, Guillaume
