Anyone else out there start getting a rash of problems right after/shortly after installing patch 21? AR Server: Windows 2003, AR 6.3 patch 21, emaild: 6.3 patch 21 Java 1.4.2_13 (two nodes in a server group) One server is Win 2K3 SP1, one isn't (don't quite know how that happened), but both server exhibit similar behavior/failures Database: Windows 2003 Enterprise SP1 (two-node cluster), SQL Server 2000 SP4, SAN disks After/shortly after installing patch 21, I started having problems with my AREA LDAP authentication with virtually all of my users reporting this error: ARERR [8922] The authentication service is not responding. Cannot connect to the system at this time. Contact your AR System Administrator for assistance. The #2 node in the group (the Win2K3 SP1 box) seems to just plain not work, so it's shut off right now. The #1 node needs arserver restarted most every day to get the authentication service to start working again. Nothing is logged in the arerror log, plugin logging doesn't seem to show me anything interesting either. The odd behavior is that right about the time the auth service stops responding, it seems that all logging on the server simply stops. For example, I have FINER plugin logging turned on, and when the AREA service stops working, the plugin log stops being written to (instead of the rather verbose amount of logging one would find). Occasionally, I see an entry like this in aruser.log: <USER> <TID: 0000001964> <RPC ID: 0000000020> <Queue: Escalation> <Client-RPC: 390603 > <USER: AR_ESCALATOR > /* Mon Mar 26 2007 16:02:56.3670 */ INFO EXT AUTH The authentication service is not responding. Cannot connect to the system at this time. Contact your AR System Administrator for assistance.
But so far, I have only seen this for system accounts (AR_ESCALATOR and Remedy Application Service). I'm sure there's more information I could post here, but I'm so frustrated with this system, I can't think of anything else that's relevant. To make matters worse, we're in a support contract dispute with BMC, so I can't call support, which really isn't much of a loss since I don't have log files to send them :P Anyone out there run in to similar, or just other weird behavior? Am I the only one running patch 21? Anyone else throw caution to the wind and stay on a patch < 20? Thanks.
