I got this email from Remedy Support:
The reference to MBOX is if you are using MBOX as your email
protocol. Whichever protocol you use, the email engine user
must have access to that directory, both read and write.

Hello everyone,
I am trying to install Email Engine (7.01 patch 2) as non-root
on a Linux server. The Email manual (p 32) says to give the
non-root user permission to "MBOX mail directory and all its
contents."
There is no "MBOX" on our system.
Anybody know what they are talking about?
