Some of the changes you want to go in, others you don't.

What would be nice is if the def files only contained updates for the
fields that 'needed' to be modified for the upgrade to function
properly.  e.g., update the login name lengths from 30 to 255, the
email address length from x to y, the mailbox name from a to b, etc.

That is why we have a set of forms which "Import after Install"...

Did you run the installer to upgrade the email engine?  It looks like
a size mismatch for an email address or login name.  Check the def
file for the email messages and email mailbox forms against the forms
on your server.
