Thanks and all that, yada yada blah blah ad infinitum. Let's get to the 
point: would you prefer the hat passed in $LOCALE_CURRENCY or $CAN? 

Bearing in mind that no matter when or where said hat is passed around 
you'll probably collect the contents in Vancouver, and the conversion rate 
varies somewhat, and we will probably drink some of the proceeds to prevent 
the hat from becoming too damp.

.... and to make it easier to bear all that dancing and singing 
"A-R-S-LIST...."
