Yup. > None of the documents I can find (even looking directly at ServletExec docs) tells me how to increase the heap size. Sorry - did not intend to imply that they did. I was just pointing out that the documentation for the Mid-Tier is contained in a different place in AR System 6.3 vs. 7.0. Just trying to be helpful... What I usually do is put all my PDF's into one directory. Then I can use Adobe Acrobat Reader to search all of them at once. In searching for "heap" through the 7.0 documents, the only reference of interest I find is: "If you find that the number of search results is limited and you receive an out of memory error message, increase the Maximum Heap Size in your Virtual Machine Settings of your servlet engine." Hopefully the folks here have already pointed you in the right direction on how to increase the heap size on ServletExec. If not, here's the FAQ from New Atlanta (the company that builds ServletExec). http://www.newatlanta.com/c/products/servletexec/self_help/faq/detail?fa qId=318 -David J. I'm trying to take a few of the suggestions found here and will see how they turn out....but do I need to log a ticket with support to get an 'official' answer? -----Original Message----- From: Action Request System discussion list(ARSList) [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Easter, David Sent: Friday, May 18, 2007 3:39 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: Java heap space FYI, installation information on the 6.3 Mid-Tier is inside the "Installing AR System" document found on Support Central. In 7.0, this was broken out into its own guide for the Mid-Tier. http://www.bmc.com/supportu/documents/97/91/49791/49791.pdf Thanks, -David J. If you have the guide, take a look in there. I might be thinking 7.x also. -----Original Message----- From: Action Request System discussion list(ARSList) [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of L. J. Old server is a 1.4GHz with 2GB Ram...new box is 2.6GHz with 4GB Ram. Both boxes are same version of software...minimal config (if any) on ServletExec. On the new web server we started seeing these errors [Fri May 18 13:16:36 MDT 2007] java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: Java heap space [Fri May 18 13:16:36 MDT 2007] ServletExec: caught exception - java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: Java heap space About the only thing I have been able to do was restart the entire server to get it to work again. I found an article that said to look in the VMSettings.perf file for the line maxHeapSize It recommended increasing its setting....well I did have a VMSettings.perf file...but it only contained the lines version=1 systemOut=com.newatlanta.servletexec.SESystemOutputStream systemErr=com.newatlanta.servletexec.SESystemOutputStream So I checked the old server and the exact same thing....so now I'm confused how my new server with faster processing power and more memory is having memory issues where my old one wasn't. So...I added the following line to the perf file maxHeapSize=128000 (this particular post's recommendation) But I just got another of the errors (although doesn't seem to be down like it was before)...recommendations on how large that maxHeapSize value should be? BTW...this is all custom application development...0 OOTB apps. This server will eventually also house the production App as well....what is the default size?....should I take it to 512MB? I eagerly anticipate your recommendations ________________________________________________________________________ _______ UNSUBSCRIBE or access ARSlist Archives at www.arslist.org ARSlist:"Where the Answers Are" ________________________________________________________________________ ____ ___ UNSUBSCRIBE or access ARSlist Archives at www.arslist.org ARSlist:"Where the Answers Are" ________________________________________________________________________ ____ ___ UNSUBSCRIBE or access ARSlist Archives at www.arslist.org ARSlist:"Where the Answers Are" -- No virus found in this incoming message.
