I tried using a archive form on the e-mail messages form (by enabling the new Archive tab) and for some reason the link was broken between the mail messages form and the e-mail engine. I needed to import all mail objects from production to development (where I tried this little experiment). We are planning a refresh of Development from production (So I will have over 400k mail messaged to try and delete) and I will then try the delete option on the archive tab (I am not going to try using archive form again).
