It is generally available. Any customer may request a trial license
key. It is especially useful if you've just bought a new product and
need a key right away. By getting a trial license key, you can get up
and running while waiting for your permanent keys to get processed and
sent to you.

In the licensing and password section of the BMC support site there is a
link to request a trial license.

Is this generally available or just to partners?

Ron,

Upgrade the application you are using from ITSM 6 to ITSM 7 ?

This is a major change. ITSM 7 is a complete rewrite of the ITSM
application based on the ITSP (ex-Viadyne) application, not ITSM 6 (the
code base for ITSM 6 has been abandoned by BMC). It is not a simple
upgrade and there is virtually no overlap in forms/workflow between ITSM
6 and 7. Changing to ITSM 7 is like installing a completely new
application - you will need to re-train your staff, change/adapt
existing processes, perform a complicated migration of existing data to
the new application, discover which of your current customizations need
to be re-done on the new application, etc. etc.

Subject: Sandbox for ITSM 7?

**

I'm working on our upgrade to ITSM 7 (well, actually just Service Desk
7) and I'd like some advice. For past upgrades, I've done a completely
OTB install on an unlicensed 'sandbox' server just to see what's there,
and compare my customizations to the OTB and so forth. As you know, we
can't do an unlicensed install with ITSM 7, so I'm wondering how some of
you who have already dealt with this managed.

I've got a licensed development system, so I can install there, but it's
likely I'll need to do some troubleshooting of production problems
before we get the upgrade in production, so I need a dev system that's
exactly like production. I'm thinking I could do a backup of the
existing dev system database, then do a fresh install or ARS 7 and a
fresh OTB install of ITSM 7, then if I need the HD6.0 system, restore
from the 6.0 backup. This sounds like it should work, but I don't know
about binaries that may get installed for ITSM 7 which might make going
back and forth between 6 and 7 challenging.

Your thoughts?

Thanks,
