Mike,
if you have to deal with system forms, there is one rule of thumb - do NOT 
modify system workflow, just ADD your own (better with a custom prefix in 
names, to separate from systems). Everything should be fine then. I jave a very 
complex email parsing and routing workflow based on AR System Email Messages 
form, and all upgrades or patches to email engine passed fine for now.
