Has anyone encountered this error and found a way to deal with it?

The complete message is as follows:

Error occurred in generating report.
ARERR (553) Operation requested is too large for a single SQL command.

I recently upgraded from ARS 6.0 to ARS 6.03 (no patches), OS is WIN2K (fully
patched), database is SQL Server 2000 (fully patched).

This error occurs only in the user tool (6.0 or 6.03) under a fairly specific
set of circumstances. If a query is run and records are then selected from the
results pane, then Tools | Reporting is chosen and an ARS native report is
selected, the error will occur as soon as the report is previewed or printed.
However, it will only occur if 1) more than 430 records are selected and 2) at
least one field in the report template is sorted. If there is no sorting, the
report runs fine regardless of the number of records selected.

If the query parameters are entered in the form, and Tools | Reporting is
chosen immediately (ie. before a search on the form) then the report runs fine
regardless of the number of records and whether or not any fields are sorted.

The same situation (ie. enter parameters, run search, select a number of
records from the results pane) works perfectly on the mid-tier, regardless of
the number of records and whether or not any fields in the report template are
sorted.

I am assuming one of the 6.03 patches would rectify this situation, but I am
currently out of support and would like to verify that this is the case to help
justify the expenditure on support renewal.

Thanks in advance,
Jim.
